In 1945, my Bubba and Zaida (grandparents), Lily and Jack Fishman, started Economy Cleaners in its original location in Inglewood. Jack was an old school tailor and Lily was a strategic and savvy business woman. Together with their 3 children, Jessie, Sam and Benny, they struggled to build their new business. Through countless hours and hard work, the business slowly grew over the years and as a result, it moved to it’s current main location on 17th Avenue. Simultaneously, my Father Benny began to take over the operations alongside my Grandparents. His knack for business, his attention to detail, along with his gentle and kind nature, elevated him to a true industry and business leader in Calgary until his passing in January 2013. Along with my Mom Rosa, they drove the business ahead through the ups and downs of the Calgary oil economy. My Dad and I decided to change the name “Economy Cleaners” to “Fishman’s” in the year 2000. I started working with my dad in 1994 and gradually took over the business under his mentorship. Currently, Fishman’s has grown to 10 locations and has added more services such as linen productions, an in-house shoe cobbler and 5 talented on-site tailors. Most of our staff have been with us for years (some even decades) and have made Fishman’s what it is today. Presently, with my Wife Tasha, we continue to run our Family business with all the wisdom of past generations and a clear vision for the future. Our focus is on outstanding quality, service and creating a clean footprint for the planet and the next generation! We want to welcome you to Fishman’s and thank you all for 70 + years of support, of a true Calgary Family Business.
